Civil War Non Hereditary Organizations

The following is a list of Civil War organizations that are non-hereditary.

Virginia Center For Civil War Studies

With a chief goal of educating the young, the projects of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies concentrate on the actions that led to the war, on the factors that help explain it and its aftermath, and on the people who suffered through it. The center provides an ideal setting to shed new light on the war—not merely on the political and military aspects, but also on the more subtle social, cultural, and human implications of this pivotal episode in United States history.

The Center For Civil War Photography

The mission of the Center for Civil War Photography is to educate the public about Civil War photography and its role in the conflict; to promote the continuing study of its rich variety of forms and formats; to preserve original Civil War photographs and equipment as well as the original methods and techniques for making them; and to present interpretive programs that use Civil War 3-D photographs and regular images to their fullest potential.

The Lincoln Group Of New York

Established in 1978, The Lincoln Group Of New York is a non-profit, tax-exempt, historical society with nationwide membership dedicated to the study and discussion of the life and times of our 16th President of the United States. Educational in nature with the purpose of advancing the existing body of knowledge about and appreciation for Abraham Lincoln, The Lincoln Group of New York strives to promote fellowship as well as scholarship among those interested. An open invitation is made join us, either in spirit or in actual membership, and become part of our study and discussion.

Jubal A. Early Preservation Trust, Inc.

The Jubal A. Early Preservation Trust, Inc. has begun a $1,000,000 capital campaign in an effort to preserve and restore the boyhood home of Confederate General Jubal A. Early, in the Red Valley section of Franklin County, Virginia. The home and surrounding area will serve to interpret Early’s childhood on a typical old Virginia tobacco plantation, his military experiences, and his immense post war contribution to the printed history of the Southern Cause.
